India's coir exports rise 305% to ₹6,614 crore in last fiscal year

India's coir exports increased by 305% to ₹6,614 crore in the last financial year, according to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). This surge marks a significant rise from ₹1,630.33 crore in 2014-15 and reflects the growth of over 21,000 registered coir units, which have created around 230,000 jobs. The MSME Ministry also noted that more than 68,000 individuals, predominantly women, have received training in the sector, alongside the development of over 150 innovative machines and products. As the world's largest producer and exporter of coir, India contributes nearly 1% to its GDP through this industry, which includes key products like coir pith, fiber, yarn, and tufted mats.
