Taiwan Paralyzed as Typhoon Champi Approaches

Taiwan is largely shut down as Typhoon Champi approaches, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. The storm, located about 330 kilometers east of Taiwan's southern tip, is producing wind gusts of around 191 kilometers per hour. In response, authorities have closed financial markets, schools, and government offices, while all domestic and many international flights have been canceled. The Central Weather Administration warns that the effects of the typhoon could impact the island for nearly two days, even though it is not expected to make direct landfall.
