J&K Updates Family Definition for Dependent Medical Benefits

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has revised the definition of "family" for dependent medical benefits by amending the J&K Civil Services (Medical Attendance and Allowance) Rules, 1990. The new rules state that family members are considered wholly dependent if their monthly income does not exceed Rs. 9,000 plus dearness allowance, and now include divorced or separated daughters and stepmothers. Additionally, the amendment updates the list of reimbursable cardiac devices and sets a fixed reimbursement ceiling for artificial appliances, limiting payments for treatment at premium private hospitals to rates applicable at AIIMS New Delhi. This change aims to enhance the support provided to dependents while controlling healthcare costs.
