Coal Stocks at Power Plants Stable Above 18 MT, Depletion Expected in October 2026

Coal stocks at domestic power plants in India have remained stable above 18 million tonnes since September 29, 2026, with a slight decrease to 18.205 MT by October 10, 2026. The Ministry of Coal reported that coal supplies have kept pace with daily consumption, and critical stock levels are being monitored to ensure uninterrupted power generation. The pace of depletion has significantly slowed in October compared to September, with only 0.56 MT lost in the first ten days of the month, compared to a decline of 7.28 MT in September. This improvement is attributed to increased coal rake loading, averaging 469 rakes per day in early October, up from 426 rakes per day in September.
